Team Valley is one of the larger purpose-built commercial estates in the country, with around 700 companies and roughly 20,000 people working on it, so a good share of the plates we make for this part of Gateshead go onto vans, courtesy cars and fleet vehicles rather than someone's own car.
The workshop is at Dragonville Industrial Park in Durham, a run south on the A1 to Junction 62, open 9:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Saturday, with no appointment needed.
Replacing a plate on a working vehicle
A broken or faded plate on a van is a job that wants doing the same day rather than next week. Ordering online and choosing collection means the plates can be made and fitted within the hour of the order going in, during opening hours, with fitting Monday to Friday. Delivery takes a few days by comparison, because your documents have to reach us first.
Whoever brings the vehicle in needs a document proving their name and address plus one proving entitlement to the registration, which for a company vehicle usually means the V5C. A pair of plates takes about ten minutes after that.
Fitting
Fitting is £9.99 a plate or £19.98 a pair, Monday to Friday, while you wait. Sticky pads are the recommendation, and screws, plate holders and velcro are available; velcro suits anyone swapping plates between vehicles regularly. Road legal plates bought elsewhere can be fitted, illegal ones cannot.
Styles
Printed plates cover most working vehicles; the rest are there when someone wants the vehicle to stand out. All are built to the British Standard, BS AU 145e:
Legal flags are available on all of them, and shapes cover standard, shortened, hex, square 4x4, oversize, trailer, motorbike and Japanese import. 4D laser cut is the range most often asked for by name.
Private registrations
Businesses buy registrations as often as individuals do, whether that is initials on a director's car or a name across a fleet. The same rules, fleet or private
Supplier name, postcode and BS AU number on the plate, Charles Wright characters, reflective BS AU 145e material. A show plate on a working vehicle is an MOT failure waiting to happen, so we do not make them.
Assigning a registration to a company vehicle
The DVLA handles assignment through a service open 7am to 7pm daily, and it wants the V5C plus a V750 or V778, with the vehicle taxed and MOT'd. Most businesses use the Done-For-You Paperwork Service instead: a photograph of the V5C, and our admin team deals with the DVLA.
Trailers, bikes and everything else on the estate
Trailer plates, motorbike plates and oversize plates are made to the same standard and the same timescale as a car pair, which matters when the vehicle is off the road until the plate is on.
Costs for vans and cars alike
Printed plates, the usual choice for a working vehicle, start at £29.99 a pair, with fitting at £9.99 a plate. Registrations begin at £250 including the £80 DVLA fee, whether the buyer is a business or an individual.
