To legally produce your number plates, we are required to see and record the details from your original documents proving your identity and your entitlement to the registration. For example, a utility bill & V5C Logbook or V750 Certificate (see 'Valid Documents' page for full list).
The easiest documents to provide are those which are a PDF in their original form; e.g. an eV948 Certificate of Authorisation and a bank statement or utility/telephone bill.
Once you have completed your purchase, you will be directed to a page which explains the next steps for processing your order.
Utopia Plates does not sell show plates, as they could be used on the road, even though the manufacturer may sell them on the basis that they will not be. For this reason, it is illegal for a Registered Number Plate Supplier to produce any number plates featuring a legitimate registration if they do not conform to the British Standard for number plates. As such, we will not sell show plates (this includes tinted plates, blank plates or those with non-standard spacing). We will only produce fully road legal plates, with standard spacing (as it appears on your V5C).
No, this is not road legal. The centre of the number plates must feature the company name and postcode of the manufacturer for them to conform to the British Standard. We cannot print your name or any other slogan in this space.
Our warranty policy provides a 12-month cover for any manufacturing or material defects in your number plates. This includes issues like water getting between the reflective and acrylic layers, delamination, or loss of lettering that wasn't caused by damage. For a more extensive protection, we suggest you look at our Accidental Damage Cover. This policy gives you two (2) like-for-like replacement number plates if they're accidentally damaged, and this cover lasts for 2 years from your purchase date.
Your dispatch time for number plates varies depending on your specific order.
If you've ordered a private registration from us, we dispatch your number plates as soon as we receive the V750 Certificate of Entitlement from the DVLA, unless you've requested a different arrangement.
For orders involving only number plates, without a private registration, we typically dispatch the plates on the same day we receive your proof of address and proof of entitlement documents. While this isn't a guarantee, we're proud to say that our service is very quick.
Yes, you can cancel your order, however, it's important to note that we have a cancellation policy in place.
For number plates, you have the right to cancel from the moment the order is placed, until either the manufacturing process begins or 90 days have elapsed.
For private registration orders, cancellations must be made within 30 minutes of placing the order. A cancellation fee equivalent to the Administration Fee on the order will be deducted from your refund. Please note that due to the bespoke nature of these orders, the 30-minute window for cancellations is strictly adhered to.

Number Plate Sizes & Quality
The standard UK size for number plates is 520mm x 111mm. Please note this will vary if you opt for our popular short plates option. Unlike competitors who use pre-made sizes, we cut your plates to match your registration, leaving a clean, even 16mm margin on all edges. Legally, your number plates cannot have a margin smaller than 11mm.
Legality You Can Trust
Everything produced by Utopia Plates is fully road legal and compliant with the British Standard (BS AU 145e). By law, we include our company name, postcode, and BS AU number discreetly on the plate. The font is the legal UK 'Charles Wright' style. The DVLA confirms that three-dimensional characters are legal, which includes our 4D number plates (an industry name for raised acrylic characters). For your peace of mind, we also include a conveniently sized Certificate of Legality with every number plate purchase.
Show Plates
Utopia Plates does not sell show plates. To ensure all our products can be used legally on UK roads, we only produce fully road-legal replacement number plates with standard spacing as it appears on your V5C, V750 or V778 document. We do not produce tinted plates, blank plates, or those with non-standard spacing.
Legal Document Requirements
When buying number plates online, RNPS guidelines require us to verify original documents. If you are not local to us in County Durham and cannot provide an in-date eV948 Certificate of Authorisation, you will need to post your documents to us. This is a simple, secure process explained after your order. We will return your documents along with your new plates via the Royal Mail Tracked postal service.
Warranty
All of our plates come with a 36-month warranty covering manufacturing defects or natural issues. This does not cover customer-inflicted damage. Please contact us via email or our contact page to discuss a warranty claim. When ordering your number plates, you also have the opportunity to purchase our optional Number Plate Protection Plan which covers all damage, loss and theft for 2 years.
