What size are shortened plates by Utopia Plates?

At Utopia Plates, we don't believe that the customer should have to search around in an attempt to work out exactly what size their number plates need be for them to be shortened and desirable. As a result, Utopia Plates undertook a lengthy process of research and development to find the ideal method of shortening the plates to make them look great on every car.

The DVLA standards states that for plates to be legal, there must be a minimum of 11mm margin on all four corners of a number plate. During our research and development, we noticed that the margin at the top and bottom of a registration is 16mm, which doesn’t match if you feature an 11mm margin on the sides.

To produce a uniform look, when we make our shortened plates, unless you have a special request on size, we manufacture the plates with a 16mm margin on all four sides. This means that the plates comply with DVLA regulations on number plates and it also means that the plates look perfectly even and not too small/cut too close to the digits.

In conclusion, all of our shortened plates are legal, and the have a perfectly uniform margin around all the edges. If you would like a custom plate of an exact size please send the size that you need, measured in millimetres or inches.
