What are 4D laser cut acrylic number plates?

4D plates is a term used to describe a new generation of number plates. You may find yourself asking, what makes 4D plates 4 dimensional? Well, we ask ourselves the same question. The name is illogical, but it’s the industry standard now so we just accept it and work with it.

So what makes 4D plates special?

These plates use laser cut acrylic letters instead of letters which are simply printed onto the reflective material as seen on most number plates. These add a level of depth which isn’t seen on many cars. They look good in all scenarios, especially when the light hits them, and will truly make your car stand out.

Are 4D plates hard to clean? Can I use a pressure washer on 4D plates?

Our 4D plates are not hard to clean at all! They can withstand the pressure washer and you can get in between the gaps with your regular cleaning products, such as a microfibre wash mitt or lambswool wash mitt.

Will the letters fall off a set of 4D plates?

We can’t comment on our competitors, but our 4D plates use super-strong 3M adhesive to attach the letters to the plate which we expect to last many years. We’re yet to hear of any letters having fallen off a customers plates!

Are 4D plates legal?

The 4D plates that you can purchase from Utopia Plates are 100% legal for road use - the DVLA has specified that 3D lettering can be used on plates, and our plates feature the required legal text along the bottom. Our plates also follow the legal standard for spacing letters/numbers so you can rest assured they are legal.

Can I have 4D plates which are tinted or shortened?

You can request for your 4D plates to be shortened for an extra cost. We will not produce tinted plates; these are not road legal, and are therefore illegal for us to produce - even if we classed them as ‘show plates’.
